National Milk Records bags exclusive US licence

It has been piloting the technology in the UK for six months, with a rollout expected this year

National Milk Records (AQSE:NMRP) PLC told investors it received an exclusive licence for the “exploitation of GenoCells technology” in the US in a statement today.

It said the agreement is an extension of the arrangement that covers the UK and will allow US farmers to “detect mastitis and sub-clinical mastitis for genomically tested herds” much more efficiently.

The Aquis listed company achieves this through a process called SNP genotyping, where the GenoCells reference and analyse “one sample of milk from a bulk-tank, without the need to sample and test the individual animals within the herd.”

Efficient treatment and identification of mastitis is a “key parameter” for milk buyers in the UK and US, as well as being effective in providing information to reduce the use of antibiotics among the herd.

The agri-tech information services provider added it has been piloting the technology in the UK for six months, as well as developing the laboratory infrastructure.

It said it is fully prepared for a rollout to customers at scale this year in the UK, with a rollout in testing in the US anticipated for 1 January 2023.

“We are well placed to extend our launch from the UK into the United States from next year, with the revenue potential for the technology possibly very significant in the medium term,” said managing director Andy Warne.
