Elon Musk sells US$1bn worth of Tesla shares after exercising further options

The world's richest person has so far exercised options to buy 10.7 million Tesla shares and sold 10.1 million shares for US$10.9bn

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)'s chief executive Elon Musk sold a further 934,091 shares in the electric car maker worth US$1.01bn after exercising options on 2.1 million shares, according to regulatory filings.

Musk, the richest person in the world, last month tweeted that he would sell 10% of his shares in Tesla if his Twitter followers approved. A majority voted in favour of the sale.

Since then, Musk has exercised options to buy 10.7 million shares and sold 10.1 million shares for US$10.9bn.

He still has an option to buy about 10 million more shares at US$6.24 each, which expires in August next year.
