McAfee to be snapped up in US$14bn private equity deal

The company's shareholders are set to receive US$26 per share, from an investor in an all-cash transaction

Anti-virus and cybersecurity firm McAfee Corporation has agreed to be acquired by a group of private equity investors in a US$14bn deal.

McAfee shareholders are set to receive US$26 per share, from an investor in an all-cash transaction.

The price was pitched at a 23% premium to McAfee’s close of US$21.21 on 4 November, prior to reports of a potential deal surfacing.

The deal, which will take McAfee private, is slated to be completed in the first half of 2022.

A consortium of private equity buyers acquiring McAfee includes Advent International and Permira Advisers, Crosspoint Capital, CPP Investments, GIC, and a fully-owned unit of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

McAfee additionally noted its current trading performance with a strong third-quarter, including 24% year-on-year revenue growth, and increased its net subscriber numbers by 16% (640,000).
