J Sainsbury PLC (LSE:SBRY) is offering a £500 bonus in an effort to attract thousands of delivery drivers over the Christmas period as the UK continues to endure food and fuel shortages as a result of the shortage of HGV drivers.
Announcing its biggest ever Christmas recruitment drive, Sainsbury’s said it is creating 22,000 seasonal jobs, comprising 14,500 Sainsbury’s and Argos jobs, 3,000 online delivery driver positions and 4,500 warehouse and logistics openings.
The supermarket group said both new and existing drivers could earn up to an additional £500 for working shifts over the festive season.
Clo Moriarty, Sainsbury’s retail and digital director, said: “By recruiting 22,000 temporary Sainsbury’s and Argos colleagues on an attractive pay package, incentivising online drivers and offering additional hours to existing colleagues over the festive season, we will deliver what our customers want - great food and fantastic service.”
