Antipa Minerals Ltd (ASX:AZY) aircore drilling program at the Paterson farm-in project with IGO Ltd (ASX:IGO) (OTCMKTS:IPGDF) in WA's Paterson Province has extended Poblano gold-copper-silver mineralisation by 500 metres to 1.6 kilometres of strike.

The drilling is part of the IGO funded $4 million exploration program over a 2.5 year period that commenced in July 2020 and this forms part of IGO's $30 million farm-in agreement.

Phase 1 of the FY21 exploration program was completed in the December quarter of 2020 and included a first-pass, wide-spaced geochemical aircore drill program comprising 79 holes for 4,026 metres testing the Reaper-Poblano-Serrano (RPS) and Grey precious base metal trends.

The results have extended the strike length of the Poblano gold-copper mineralisation by around 500 metres and intersected highly anomalous zones of gold‐copper‐silver mineralisation and multiple other pathfinder elements beneath shallow sand cover.

Key results include:

  • 45 metres at 0.12 g/t gold from 24 metres down hole (intersected 500 metres north of the Poblano prospect) including 17 metres at 0.18 g/t gold from 50 metres down hole; and
  • 4 metres at 0.31 g/t gold from 80 metres down hole (intersected 70 metres northwest of Poblano).

El Paso structural trend

In 2019, the company discovered gold-copper-silver mineralisation beneath just 20 metres of cover at RPS and gold-silver-copper-zinc-lead mineralisation beneath 15 metres of cover at Grey.

The RPS and Grey systems are along and proximal to an El Paso Corridor structural trend which extends for 34 kilometres across the Paterson Project tenure and hosts major mineral systems including Winu.

Antipa managing director Roger Mason said: “These results are very encouraging and provide firm direction and support for the exploration program to be carried out this year and ongoing evidence of the exploration offered by the El Paso structural trend which stretches across the entire Paterson Project.”

Detailed follow-up drilling is planned to investigate the potential of the RPS and Grey mineral systems.

In prolific region

Antipa has a strong position in the prolific Paterson Province in northern Western Australia, home to Newcrest Mining Ltd’s (ASX:NCM) world‐class Telfer gold‐copper mine, Rio Tinto Limited’s (ASX:RIO) Winu copper‐gold deposit, Greatland Gold PLC (LON:GGP)‐Newcrest’s recent Havieron gold‐copper discovery and other significant mineral deposits.

The FY21 IGO farm‐in exploration program has a greenfield discovery emphasis, with a focus on Winu, Havieron, Telfer and Nifty analogue targets.

Paterson exploration program

It includes the balance of the aircore program comprising around 4,000 metres of drilling planned for completion in May-June with the focus on the RPS gold-copper trend, including a parallel north-northwest trending structural corridor immediately to the east which hosts the Alcatraz prospect.

The remainder of the Paterson Project exploration for 2021 is being finalised but will likely consist of the following greenfield exploration activities:

  • Follow-up RC diamond core drill testing of priority targets at RPS and Grey;
  • Surface geochemical sampling and analysis;
  • Geophysical surveying; and
  • Target identification.
