St George Mining escalates drilling at flagship high-grade Mt Alexander Project at north-eastern Goldfields with second diamond drill rig
Diamond drilling underway at Mt Alexander

St George Mining Limited (ASX:SGQ) (FRA:S0G) has escalated drilling at its flagship high-grade Mt Alexander Nickel-Copper Sulphide Project, in WA's north-eastern Goldfields, with a second diamond drill rig now in operation.

Another diamond drill rig arrived at site over the weekend and started drilling yesterday.

There are now two diamond rigs now in operation to drill for potential nickel-copper sulphide discoveries at Mt Alexander.

Expedite testing of targets

St George Mining executive chairman John Prineas said: “We are delighted that a second diamond drill rig has arrived at Mt Alexander.

“Availability of drill rigs in Western Australia remains very tight so securing an additional rig is a great outcome for St George.

“The availability of the rig was only confirmed last Friday, on short notice.

“We have a number of EM conductors and deep stratigraphic exploration holes lined up and ready for drilling.

“The second rig will serve to expedite testing of these targets.

“The two EM conductors currently being drilled are interpreted to have a massive sulphide source.

“They are located to the west of known massive nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation and offer an excellent opportunity to make a new discovery in this unexplored area of the Cathedral Belt.”

24/7 drilling

The second drill rig deployed will operate with two crews to allow for drilling 24/7.

An electromagnetic (EM) plate modelled for the 55,550 Siemens conductor is predicted to be intersected at 505 metres downhole.

This conductor is one of two identified by a downhole electromagnetics (DHEM) survey in MAD192.

Drilling by the first rig is at 115.5 metres downhole, with the modelled EM plate predicted to be intersected at 340 metres downhole.

This 33,100 Siemens conductor being drilled is one of five EM anomalies identified from the DHEM survey in MAD185.

The multiple EM conductors at these target areas is strongly supportive for the presence of a significant volume of sulphide mineralisation and the extension of the known high-grade Investigators mineralisation into the West End prospect area.

COVID-19 update

St George continues to manage its operations in compliance with COVID-19 regulations and will continue to proactively manage drilling and other field programs to protect the health and safety of its team and service providers.

Border restrictions in Western Australia and elsewhere have impacted on the movement of personnel for drill rig crews, which is constraining the availability of drill rigs.

St George is in close contact with its drilling contractors to best manage access and continuity to drilling services.
