S&P/ASX 200 on track for worst daily fall this year following a sharp decline on Wall Street

S&P/ASX 200 (INDEXASX:XJO) fell 1.96% to 6700 points by 2.04 pm following a sharp decline on Wall Street overnight as investors panicked on rising longer-term US Treasury yields.

The benchmark index is on track for its worst daily decline of the year so far.

10-year US treasury note briefly crossed the 1.6% level on Thursday, its highest level in more than a year.

Locally, all sectors were lower by at least 1% with technology the worst performer, falling 5%.

Reporting season

Harvey Norman (ASX:HVN) doubled its net profit to $462 million on a 25% rise in total sales to $5.1 billion as sales for furniture and electricals remained strong during the pandemic.

Infant formula maker Bubs (ASX:BUB) shares have lifted 3.6% after goat milk formula sales to China rose 36% while Australian retail sales also saw strong gains.
