Piedmont Lithium Ltd - Piedmont Lithium Ltd receives air permit for its proposed lithium hydroxide chemical plant in Kings Mountain, North Carolina
The permit represents a significant milestone in the development of its proposed integrated lithium hydroxide business in North Carolina

Piedmont Lithium Ltd (ASX:PLL) (OTCMKTS:PDDTF) (NASDAQ:PLL) has received the air permit from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) to construct and operate its proposed 22,700 tonnes per year lithium hydroxide chemical plant at Kings Mountain, North Carolina.

The Title V Air Permit represents a significant milestone in the development of its proposed integrated lithium hydroxide business in North Carolina.

Piedmont now holds all of the federally-regulated permits required for the construction of the project.

"Most advanced American lithium project"

Piedmont president and chief executive officer Keith D Phillips said: “Securing our Title V Air Permit represents a major milestone for our integrated lithium hydroxide business and we are very pleased to have received this authorization.

“Our project is unique in being the only spodumene-to-hydroxide project in the United States, and together with our previously received federal permit for our concentrate operations, now also stands out as the most advanced American lithium project.

“We are very excited about the import milestones ahead of us as we look to deliver a DFS."

Complete local re-zoning processes

This permit defines the allowable limits for the construction and operations of emission sources, as well as the construction and operation of air cleaning equipment to be used in the plant.

The NCDEQ’s Division of Air Quality issued the permit after a detailed review of Piedmont’s permit application, which was submitted in October 2020.

PLL expects to apply for a North Carolina State Mining Permit and to complete local re-zoning processes for the integrated project in the first half of 2021.

The integrated lithium project targets the annual production of 160,000 tonnes of spodumene concentrate and the annual manufacture of 22,700 tonnes of battery-quality lithium hydroxide in North Carolina to support electric vehicle and battery supply chains in the US and globally.
