Greatland Gold PLC (LON:GGP) has hailed shallow gold mineralisation, as well as zinc and silver, at its wholly owned Firetower project in Tasmania, Australia.

Drilling highlights so far include 13.5m at 2.00g/t gold (grams of gold per tonne), 13.5m at 2.44g/t gold, and 38m at 1.12g/t gold, the AIM-listed explorer said in an update on Tuesday.

Greatland encountered zinc and silver mineralisation at the previously undrilled Firetower East prospect, showing “potential for a base metal Volcanic Hosted Massive Sulphide system”.

The drilling programme, which began in June, was designed to test the main zone of mineralisation at Firetower, although additional holes will also test a previously undrilled area at Firetower East where new targets were identified by last year's 3D induced polarisation.

Analytical results for the final two holes, including the second drill hole at Firetower East, are expected to be received in early 2020.

Gervaise Heddle, chief executive officer, said recent results “show a further improvement in the continuity between drill sections and highlight the potential for a robust, near-surface gold system”.
