Carnarvon Petroleum drills a 26-inch hole within the Dorado-3 appraisal well in WA

The Dorado oil and gas field is part of the Phoenix project acreage, jointly owned by Santos (80%) and Carnarvon Petroleum (20%).

Carnarvon Petroleum Ltd (ASX:CVN) has drilled a 26-inch hole to a depth of about 1,025 metres at the Dorado-3 appraisal well with a 20-inch casing set in place.

The Dorado-3 well is the second appraisal of the Dorado oil and gas field, which was discovered in 2018 about 160 kilometres north-northeast of Port Hedland in the Bedout Sub-basin in 95 metres water depth.

It has been designed to enhance the joint venture’s confidence in the subsurface characteristics and confirm reservoir productivity.

Dorado-3 is planned to conduct up to three flow tests targeting the Caley, Baxter and Milne reservoirs, as well as acquire about 380 metres of full-bore core in the Caley, Baxter, Crespin and Milne Members.

This will result in a substantial amount of new data to further characterise the Dorado field.

The Dorado-1 exploration well discovered hydrocarbon bearing reservoirs in the Caley, Baxter, Crespin and Milne Members of the Lower Keraudren Formation.

The Dorado-2 appraisal well, which is 2.2 kilometres northeast of the Dorado-1 well confirmed hydrocarbon bearing reservoirs in the Caley, Baxter and Milne wells and demonstrated connectivity within each reservoir.

The 16-inch hole will be drilled to a depth of around 2,600 metres and 13 and three-eighths casing will be set in place.

Following this a 12 and a quarter inch hole will be drilled to around 3,880 metres.

No hydrocarbons are anticipated to be intersected in these drilling sections.
