Acta seals tie-up with Dantherm for arctic fuel cells

Hydrogen energy specialist Acta (LON:ACTA) has agreed a tie-up to develop a recharging fuel-cell power back-up system alongside Dantherm Power, a subsidiary of NASDAQ listed Ballad Power Systems.

The idea is that the fuel cell back-up systems could address what Acta calls “significant opportunities” in cold and remote geographic locations where traditional power sources suffer severe drawbacks.

Acta’s EL 1000 electrolyser, which facilitates the production of hydrogen, will be integrated with Dantherm's fuel cell backup power system, and the device will be deployed on an island near the Arctic.

Acta said the shipment is expected to take place in September.

"We have been discussing technical collaboration with Dantherm for some time and we are pleased to be going ahead together with this installation,” said chief executive Paolo Bert.

“We see a significant opportunity for fuel cell backup power systems for remote locations including cold environments, where the ability to generate hydrogen onsite from renewable power sources is a key enabler.”

Adding: “We look forward to the success of the partnership with Dantherm and to extending our reach into the telecommunications backup power market together with them."
