Oil explorer Global Energy Development (LON:GED) has hired Maurice B Dusseault Consulting to assist it with the recompletion of its Torcaz No.5 heavy oil well in Colombia with the use of the CHOPS technology.
The consultancy will assist the company in reviewing the technical information of the Torcaz field, preparing an equipment specification and procedures for applying cold heavy oil production with sand (CHOPS) technology in the Torcaz No.5 well.
The well is part of the Bocachico contract area in the country’s Middle Magdalena Valley.
“We are looking forward to utilize the expertise of an industry CHOPS specialist such as Maurice Dusseault as we refine the equipment specifications to successfully apply CHOPS in the Torcaz No.5 well,” said managing director of Global Energy Steve Voss.
The recompletion programme started in November last year with the company cleaning out the previously drilled wellbore and installing a bridge plug to control possible water influx.
It then added further perforations into the Mugrosa formation above the plug.
The company is currently in the process of modifying the pump in order to attain optimum depth for the targeted Mugrosa perforations and optimum fluid level production.
The well was originally drilled in 1999 and previously tested at rates of over 300 barrels of oil per day from the Mugrosa formation before sanding up using a conventional non-sand tolerant pump.
