AstraZeneca says children’s asthma drug fails clinical trial

AstraZeneca PLC said a Phase III clinical trial of an asthma treatment for children by its partner MAP Pharmaceuticals Inc failed to reach its aim of controlling the illness by day or by night.

MAP Pharmaceuticals announced yesterday that Unit Dose Budesonide (UDB) did not alter asthma symptoms when compared with placebo, AstraZeneca said.

AstraZeneca will work with MAP Pharmaceuticals to conduct further analyses of these data to determine appropriate next steps for the programme.

AstraZeneca and MAP Pharmaceuticals have a collaboration agreement to develop and commercialise UDB.
