Signature Metals (ASX: SBL) has recommenced its mining and processing operations at Old Konongo Tails Dam in Ghana, part of the Konongo Gold Project.
Ore is already being stockpiled with haulage to begin next week, after the company obtained the necessary environmental permit.
The tailings dam contains 61,150 gold ounces in the Indicated and Inferred categories.
Included in this resource is a high grade zone containing around 448,000 tonnes at a grade of 1.66 grams per tonne (g/t).
Even better, sampling of stockpiles returned up to 18g/t gold.
Signature said this material will add to the 100,000 tonnes of stockpiles available in the plant area, and will be blended to provide initial mill feed.
The Konongo Gold Project is 70% owned by Signature and is located in the world class Ashanti Gold Belt.
Historical production at the project totalled 1.6 million ounces at 11.8g/t gold.
The next step for Signature is to develop the project into a plus 100,000 ounce annual gold producer from the existing JORC Resources of over 1.2 million ounces.
