FTSE 100 seen flat after US stocks creep higher

The FTSE 100 is currently projected to open flat today after tacking on 0.9% on Monday.

Chipmaker ARM Holdings (LON:ARM) led the blue chips with a 4% gain.

Mining major Xstrata (LON:XTA) and packaging group Rexam (LON:REX) tacked on 3.5%.

Fashion house Burberry (LON:BRBY) and International Consolidated Airlines Group (LON:IAG) were up 3%.

Insurance focused investor Resolution (LON:RSL) and telecom group BT (LON:BT.A) were at the bottom of the pile with losses of 1.6%.

Mobile operator Vodafone (LON:VOD) shed 1.1%.

US stocks were on the rise. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 index rose 0.6% and the technology heavy NASDAQ composite climbed 0.55%.

Bank of America (NYSE:BAC) led the DJIA components with a 2.7% gain.

American Express (NYSE:AXP) and JP Morgan (NYSE:JPM) advanced 2.3% and 2% respectively.

Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) was at the bottom of the pile with a 1.3% loss.

Kraft Foods (NYSE:KFT) lost 1%.

In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei 225 added 0.4% and South Korea’s KOSPI dropped 0.6%.

Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.45%.

Commodities

US light, sweet crude for March delivery held steady at US$87.51/barrel.

Gold was flat at US$1,351/oz. Silver and platinum advanced to US$29.45/oz and US$1,841/oz respectively.

Copper and zinc held steady at US$4.53/lb and US$1.12/lb, while nickel rose to US$12.81/lb.
