MinRex Resources finds high-grade gold in Marble Bar rock chip sampling

The results indicate the project’s potential to host complex gold, base metal and polymetallic mineralised systems.

Marble Bar North area – gold nuggets recovered in December 2017

MinRex Resources Ltd (ASX:MRR) has received further high-grade gold assay results from rock chips collected across its two Marble Bar project areas in Western Australia’s Pilbara.

The geological evaluation and sampling program was the third conducted at the project after gold nuggets were found at the Marble Bar North tenement in December last year.

Results from both prospects were generally low for most elements, except for gold assays.

Marble Bar North’s gold assays varied from zero up to 105 g/t gold, with an average of 6 g/t from all 20 samples taken across the northern prospect.

Three assays graded more than 1 g/t and 10 were more than 0.1 g/t.

The highest-grade samples of 105 g/t came from loose, iron-rich quartz vein material in the spoil pile of a small pit near the granite/greenstone contact and part of the old Ironclad mine workings.

MinRex also collected 20 samples from its Marble Bar South project area, targeting conglomerate horizons and outcrops beyond and around the old workings.

Several samples were anomalous in various elements, but gold assays varied from 2 ppb gold up to 37.7 g/t, with an average of 2 g/t across the 20 samples.

The highest value sample of 27.7 g/t came from a loose quartz vein float sample that may have been transported from higher up on the ridge line.

More sampling and geological mapping will be required to determine the significance of this sample.

The known gold mineralisation at the southern prospect occurs as a 100-metre-long and 2-metre-wide zone of quartz veining in pyritic-fuchsite-carbonate rock which lies parallel to the regional schistosity.

Sampling aimed to test underexplored parts of the licence, particularly the conglomerate-bearing areas, for previously undetected gold mineralisation.

The next phase of field work on MinRex’s East Pilbara projects will comprise further metal-detecting along with detailed rock sampling, soil sampling and detailed geological mapping.

These programs will be utilised to better understand these complex gold, base metal and poly-metallic mineralised systems.
