Six Sigma Metals Ltd (ASX:SI6) has started drilling the high-priority Bonnyvale lithium target at the Shamva project in Zimbabwe to judge the thickness of mineralisation and see if it continues at depth.

The West Perth company said drilling had begun and would continue until the end of this month, with assays to be returned in August.

First-pass approach

The first-pass drilling program is aimed at demonstrating the thickness and depth extent of the mineralisation where 61 rock samples had shown grades of more than 2% lithium.

Three holes will be drilled, over about 300 metres, to intersect a thick outcropping lithium-mineralised pegmatite flagged during field investigations.

The area pegged out has a prominent pegmatite body containing a long line of historic trenches and underground workings.

These display coarse-grained lithium host minerals such as spodumene, petalite and lepidolite.

Drilling will also test the morphology of the target.

The company may also expand the drilling program, depending on results.

Six Sigma is waiting on laboratory assay results from sampling at the Loch Ness target, also within the Shamva project.

There were 75 surface rock samples sent for testing from the target, which features historical trenches indicating prominent pegmatite body.

The explorer expects to receive these results next month.
