The company said in a statement on Wednesday that the drilling at the Grandao and Grandao Extended had now defined a ‘virtually continuous zone of shallowly westerly dipping pegmatite’ and this has confirmed the zone’s excellent potential.

"We continue to see very encouraging results from the drilling of Grandao Extended which, together with Grandao, are matched by a very low stripping ratio,” said David Archer, Savannah chief executive.

“We believe this highlights the significant expansion potential available at Mina do Barroso as we continue to fast-track the Project towards production."

To date, a total of 135 holes spanning 11,083 metres have been drilled across the project’s three primary areas – namely Grandao, Reservatorio and NOA.

A scoping study and a new resource assessment are due to be completed towards the end of the second quarter.

Phase 3 metallurgical programme, including diamond drilling, has been completed and materials have been shipped for testing. The results are anticipated during the third quarter.

Meanwhile, diamond drilling has begun on the sub-vertical body at Grandao.
