Walt Disney’s employees to get US$1,000 bonus windfall from tax reform

The bonus will benefit a total of 125,000 employees who have been with the company before January 1

Walt Disney Co (NYSE:DIS) has said it plans to hand out a one-time cash bonus of US$1,000 each to its full-time and part-time employees in the US, all thanks to the tax reform bill that was signed into law in December.

The bonus will benefit a total of 125,000 employees who have been with the company before January 1.

In addition, the company said it plans to invest US$50mln in a new and ongoing education programme to cover tuition costs for hourly Disney workers.

It will then provide up to US$25mln in annual funding going forward.

Both the proposals will cost the company more than US$175mln in the fiscal year.

Disney is joining a horde of major companies who have vowed to give back to their employees after the tax reform took effect.

In premarket, its shares edged slightly up at US$110.50, up 0.08%.
