Department 13 International Ltd (ASX:D13) has been issued a patent titled “Pre-coding in multi user MIMO” (multiple-input multiple-output) in the U.S.
The patent covers signal coding that reduces power consumption and cost in radio transmitters.
This could significantly increase the battery life of phones, computers, drones and cameras, providing IP (intellectual property) licensing opportunities for Department 13.
Currently, wireless broadband data protocols from cellular to WiFi transmit signals that have a high dynamic range but are not amplified efficiently.
Department 13’s patented technology spreads data to flatten signals, which greatly reduces power consumption in the transmitter.
Importantly, the technology improves the range and efficiency of counter-drone systems that use networks of distributed sensors and will be utilised in future versions of the company’s MESMER.
Department 13’s MESMER counter drone system is a low power, non-jamming, non-line of sight, drone mitigation solution.
The system provides an effective and safe method of protecting personnel and infrastructure from dangerous drones.
Department 13’s new patented technology can also enable the new generation of cellular networks, “5G”, to replace cell towers with small antennas.
Including this patent, Department 13 now holds 16 patents issued in the U.S., with 29 pending.
The company’s share price increased circa 10% on Wednesday, closing at $0.10.
