Westgold Resources (ASX:WGR) has intersected a significant downhole 118.8 metre interval of prospective and visually mineralised ironstone, 200 metres west and down plunge from the main high grade gold and copper rich Jupiter Zone at Rover 1 from recent drilling.
If confirmed by future drilling, this could signficantly boost the overall resource base at Rover 1.
While the current drill hole R1ARD33 is still in progress, the significant mineralised massive ironstone unit has been intersected from 816.5 to 935.3 metres (118.8 metres downhole). The initial 73.0 metres of this ironstone hosts variable chalcopyrite (copper) mineralisation.
Following this copper rich interval, there is a 13.5 metre zone of hematite dusted quartz-carbonate veining with patchy but intense zones of bismuth mineralisation (bismuthinite) which are both generally associated with gold mineralisation elsewhere in the Rover 1 system.
Visible gold specks are seen associated with one of these intense bismuth rich bands.
Sampling and assaying of this intersection is currently underway and the Company has stated that this visual mineralisation is yet to be confirmed by laboratory results.
This potential extension is of significant importance as the current Jupiter mineralisation currently only
has a down plunge dimension of approximately 300m to date.
Further drilling is required to substantiate this interpretation however if confirmed significant increases to the overall Rover 1 resource are considered likely.
The Company is currently continuing to extend this hole aiming to test for the western extension of the deeper Southern Zone. The Southern Zone is currently interpreted to possibly represent a parallel mineralised structure immediately south of the Jupiter Zone.
Currently there are three diamond drill rigs operating at Rover 1.
