Wind turbine specialist Windar Photonics PLC (LON:WPHO) has continued its run of contract wins, adding to deals this week in india with seven more, including its first test project in Korea.

The orders, for seven of its WindEYE™ LiDAR units, also includes a repeat order from a Canadian IPP customer, which together with the Korean deal are both for immediate delivery.

The Canadian customer owns more than 600MW of wind turbine power generation capacity in North America and this new order is a repeat order following Windar’s previously delivery of 5 WindEye™ LiDAR systems earlier this year.

The LiDAR units are going to be installed on a second wind park site owned by the customer for an extensive test of the WindEye™ LiDAR systems.

The order from Korea represents the first installation of the WindEye™ LiDAR systems in Korea and is going to be installed for initial testing an integration on NM82 wind turbines.

This order is facilitated through a local Korean wind turbine service company and given a successful execution of this first order, the group said it plans to appoint the service company as an official distributor for the Korean market.

Windar said this follows its strategy to extend its distribution network especially in markets where the firm does not have any local representation.

Jørgen Korsgaard Jensen, Windar’s interim chief executive officer said: "I am always very pleased to see repeat orders from existing customers, and despite the fact we are now only entering an extended test program with our Canadian customer, we have high expectations to conclude these tests successfully.

“Following our previous announcements Windar is currently planning to build a distribution network in markets where we have no local representations, and I am very pleased to see our new potential distributor in Korea already now bringing in an order for a test in Korea on a well- known NM82 WindEye™ and WindTimizer™ turbine integration.”

Yesterday the company announced it had won a public tender from the Indian National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE), and the multi-beam LiDAR system, also for immediate delivery.

And on Wednesday, Windar revealed it had won another order from an Indian power generating firm for five of its wind sensor units, with an option for a further thirty-five.

Windar’s LiDAR technology analyses the wind ahead of a turbine so it can be optimised to fit the conditions.

Short-term variations in wind speed can be measured before they reach the blades and this can increase annual power generation by 1-4% and reduce any possible damage to the wind turbine.
