Under Armour signs exclusive deal with Major League Baseball

The deal will include jerseys, game-day outerwear, year-round training apparel and various bits of merchandise for fans

Sportswear maker Under Armour Inc (NYSE:UA) is to provide the on-field uniforms of Major League baseball teams for 10 years, starting 2020.

The deal marks the company’s first ever with a professional sports league.

"This is a watershed moment for the Under Armour brand as this partnership with MLB [Major League Baseball] and Fanatics furthers our collective dedication to bringing passion, energy and innovation to the game of baseball," said Under Armour’s chief executive, the appropriately named Kevin Plank.

Shares in the company, down two-thirds year-to-date, rose 2.5% to US$30.79 on the deal.
