Eastland Medical Systems shares soar 41% prompting ASX speeding ticket

Eastland Medical Systems (ASX: EMS) shares have soared 41% to $0.024 in less than a week, with the company the recipient of a price and volume speeding ticket from the ASX.

Eastland Medical said to the exchange that it is not aware of any information that has not been released to the market which would explain the sudden investor interest, but did however state:

"On the 30th July 2012 Eastland provided an update to the market of the Phase III Clinical Trial where we advised that the majority of patients had been enrolled."

The trial is covering ArTiMist™ versus intravenous quinine in children with severe or complicated falciparum malaria, or uncomplicated falciparum malaria with gastrointestinal complications.

The trial mentioned is the African ART004 Clinical Trial. Progress of the trial has been made in Rwanda (Status closed with 51 patients enrolled), along with Burkina Faso (48 patients enrolled), Ghana (26 patients enrolled) and Tanzania - where the status is currently awaiting approval.
