Amazon and Goldman become latest to invest in start-up Ionic

Other investors who participated in the latest round and are already invested in the Atlanta-based firm include Icon Ventures and Tech Operators

Online retail giant Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) and heavyweight investment bank Goldman Sachs are two names to have put cash into US start up firm Ionic Security, a data protection group.

Ionic, which is five years old, has told investors it has brought in US $45 million in a venture capital funding from the two companies along with hedge fund Hayman Capital on Wednesday.

It brings the firm's total funding raised so far to an eye watering US$122 million to date.

Other investors who participated in the latest round and are already invested in the Atlanta-based firm include Icon Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Meritech Capital Partners, and Tech Operators.

Ionic's technology allows firms to monitor data as it flows from server to server across the web.
