Online fashion retailer ASOS PLC (LON:ASC) has announced it is to discontinue its local operations in China.

The company also announced that customers in the country will now have access to its 80,000 product range through its site ASOS.com, rather than the 6,000 currently available.

Nick Beighton, chief executive, said: “We'll continue to do business in China. We are simply serving our growing customer base there in a more efficient, less costly manner.”

Financially, the company will be hit with one-off costs of around £10mln, with £4mln hitting operating losses in the current financial year.

Both of these amounts are pre-tax and will be presented as discontinued operations at the year end, the company said.
