Stripe has agreed to acquire artificial intelligence startup OpenRouter for more than $7 billion, Bloomberg reported on Sunday, citing unnamed sources.
The deal marks a major expansion of Stripe's push into artificial intelligence, adding a platform that lets developers match different AI models to different tasks.
OpenRouter was valued at $1.3 billion in its most recent funding round in May, according to TechCrunch, more than doubling its valuation from a year earlier. The startup's backers include Andreessen Horowitz and Menlo Ventures.
OpenRouter's platform is used by 8 million developers to access more than 400 AI models, giving Stripe a foothold in the fast-growing market for AI infrastructure tools alongside its core payments processing business.
Neither Stripe nor OpenRouter has publicly confirmed the terms of the deal.
