Bluefield Solar secures £120m construction loan for 249MW solar portfolio

Bluefield Solar Income Fund Ltd (LSE:BSIF, FRA:5B3), the London-listed UK solar energy investment company, has closed a £120 million debt facility to fund construction of four solar projects in North East England.

The term loan is split equally between Santander and NatWest and will be drawn down in stages as construction progresses across the four sites, which together have a combined capacity of 249 megawatts.

The portfolio was co-developed with Bluefield Renewables Development and fully acquired by the company in late 2025, representing around 34% of its ready-to-build solar pipeline.

All four projects have secured contracts for difference (CfD) support, a government mechanism guaranteeing a fixed price for electricity generated, spanning three successive auction rounds, with grid connection dates targeted between 2027 and 2028.

Chair Michael Gibbons said the facility was secured on attractive terms and that strong lender interest reflected the appeal of the solar sector to institutional debt providers.
