MedPal AI acquires second pharmacy hub with path to EBITDA breakeven

MedPal AI plc (AIM:MPAL), the digital health company, has acquired a pharmacy facility in Runcorn from the administrators of Remedi Solutions for £310,000.

NHS-verified data shows the Runcorn site dispensed one million prescription items in 2024, equating to an annualised turnover of approximately £10 million at current NHS average item values.

The acquisition gives MedPal AI two General Pharmaceutical Council-registered NHS dispensing hubs, alongside its existing Swaffham facility in Norfolk.

Management forecasts pharmacy-level EBITDA breakeven at a run rate of 80,000 items per month, a threshold the Runcorn site alone comfortably exceeded throughout 2024.

The group dispensed over 40,000 items in March 2026 and is applying to Runcorn the same patient reactivation strategy used to scale Swaffham from zero following its acquisition in October.

That strategy combines direct NHS nomination outreach, care home re-contracting, robotic dispensing and clinical integration through the MedPal app.

NHS pharmacy gross margins exceed 34%, with management flagging strong operating leverage as fixed costs are absorbed over rising volumes.

The transaction constitutes a related party transaction under AIM rules, as it involves chief executive Jason Drummond, who originally secured the acquisition rights from the administrators.
