LSE examines potential for 24-hour trading - report

London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LSE:LSEG) is looking at a potential move to around-the-clock trading, according to a Financial Times report.

This is one of the options the stock market operator is examining, sources said, amidst wider discussions about extending its trading hours.

The practicalities of extending hours are being examined, including the likely technology and regulatory changes that would be required.

The talks have been ongoing for some time, the sources said, while the report noted that several major US markets have already filed for permission to begin 24-hour trading.

Last October, the New York Stock Exchange announced plans to begin around-the-clock trading using its electronic Arca exchange, with Nasdaq announcing its own plans earlier this year.

Both New York-based exchanges said they have said they are working with regulators and critical industry infrastructure providers to make it a reality, with SEC approval yet to be gained.
