FTSE 100 makes early gains; Halma and DFS surge while Trainline and Hornby derail - Market Report

After an uncertain start, the FTSE 100 has made small gains in early Thursday morning trade, adding a fifth of a percent to 8,558.

Halma is among the morning's risers, jumping more than 4% after a modestly bullish update.

Shares in DFS Furniture bounced 11% as the retailer reported strong interim results and strong current trading. Underlying profit before tax sprang up to £17 million from £8.7 million a year earlier.

Meanwhile, Trainline has reported ticket sales at the bottom end of its guidance but announced a share buyback of up to £75 million. The ticketing app generated £5.9 million in total ticket sales in the year to the end of February, up 12% on a reported and constant currency basis.

And Hornby has announced it plans to delist from AIM. The model train maker said operating outside a publicly quoted environment would improve its decision-making ability and regulatory hurdles during a period demanding agility and focused execution.
