FTSE 100 struggles for direction; Anglo jumps on upgrade while Peel Hunt declines - Market Report

London's FTSE 100 appeared to struggle for direction as a quiet session got underway on Friday, leaving the index flat at 8,280.

Anglo-American topped risers after being upgraded to a ‘buy’ by Jefferies analysts on its planned restructuring, which included the sale of a stake in its platinum wing this week.

Peel Hunt was among the few to report, with shares dropping after the investment bank highlighted a better first half but pointed to uncertainty around last month’s Budget.

Elsewhere, Zoopla reported house prices increased 1.5% in the year to October to £267,200 and said surging buyer activity should fuel growth in the coming years.

And finally, reports emerged that the government could delay the ban on hybrid cars beyond 2030 as the industry grapples to meet its mandate on electric vehicle sales against slow demand.
