Graft Polymer files two US patent applications

Graft Polymer (UK) PLC (LSE:GPL) announced the filing of two new provisional utility patent applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), relating to treatments using depot drug delivery systems (DDDS) for substance use (SUDs) and mental health disorders.

One patent application addresses the use of DDDS to reduce side effects and enhance the efficacy of therapeutics used to treat SUDs.

The other focuses on reducing side effects and improving the effectiveness of therapeutics for mental health disorders – including Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

It noted that the patent applications leverage Graft Polymer's biopolymer expertise to address significant unmet medical needs in addiction and mental health therapy, particularly in the US market.

"We are pleased to announce the filing of these two new provisional patent applications, which marks another step forward in our work to leverage the company's biopolymer expertise for the potential treatment of substance abuse and mental health disorders,” chief executive Anthony Tennyson said in a statement.

“Our strategic focus on healthcare, underscored by these applications and our recent corporate actions, demonstrates our commitment to innovation and growth in this vital sector."

Last month, the company told investors that it is evaluating a shortlist of five entities for potential future commercial collaboration.

Today, it noted that the review is now nearing completion, with further details expected to be announced in the near term.
