Ford’s US EV sales jump 86% in first quarter

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) saw its US electric vehicle (EV) sales surge 86% during the first quarter, making it the second-best-selling EV brand behind Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA, ETR:TL0) for the period.

The company said on Wednesday that it sold 20,223 EVs in Q1, compared to 386,810 EVs delivered by Tesla.

Sales of the F-150 Lightning all-electric truck rose 80% when compared to the year-ago quarter to 7,743 and Mustang Mach-E SUV sales were up 77% to 9,589, making it the second-best-selling EV SUV in the US behind Tesla’s Model Y.

The Ford-E Transit saw its best-ever quarter with sales of 2,891, up 148% year-over-year.

Total Ford and Lincoln sales were up 7% in Q1, which the company noted outpaced the overall industry.

Overall hybrid sales were up 42% to 38,421 vehicles with the company expecting continued growth from the shipping of the new F-150 hybrid to more dealers.

“The new F-150 will be a big play for us across gas, hybrid and electric vehicle segments of our business,” Andrew Frick, Ford Blue president, commented.

“With the new F-150 and all-new Ranger sales beginning in March along with the strong performance of our all-new Lincoln Nautilus and Nautilus Hybrid, we’re in a strong position to capitalize and grow as we move through 2024. From gas engines to hybrids to electric vehicles, we offer our customers more choices.”
