PyroGenesis secures new contract for green cement development

PyroGenesis Canada Inc. (TSX:PYR, OTCQX:PYRGF), a high-tech company specializing in advanced plasma processes and sustainable solutions, has inked a new contract worth approximately C$450,000 with a US structural materials entity engaged in advanced cement development.

Funded in part by the US Department of Energy, the contract marks PyroGenesis' entrance into the cement industry, targeting a sector responsible for more than 8% of global CO2 emissions.

The client's identity remains confidential due to contractual agreements, PyroGenesis noted.

PyroGenesis will design and construct a tailored system for lab-scale cement production applications, integrating a plasma torch, refractory furnace, and necessary gas, power, and cooling components. This system aims to facilitate advanced cement development and testing while minimizing emissions typically associated with fossil fuel-based processes.

“The cement industry is one we have been targeting, as it is one of the highest-emitting industrial sectors, responsible for more than 8% of global CO2 emissions,” CEO P Peter Pascali said in a statement.

“We believe our greenhouse gas-free technologies are a perfect solution to help the cement industry decarbonize by replacing fossil-fuel burners with PyroGenesis’ electric plasma torches in various process steps, effectively moving towards green cement.”

PyroGenesis’ involvement in developing plasma torches for high-temperature applications aligns with its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The company's technology provides heavy industry with an economically attractive alternative to conventional processes, supporting global efforts for sustainability.
