Instacart stock slides from sky-high opening price on its first day of trading

Instacart (NASDAQ:CART) stock closed the day up 12% at US$33.70 after making its debut on the Nasdaq — above its IPO price of $30 but a far cry from its opening price of $42.

After the initial swell prior to opening, investors engaged in a bit of profit taking on shares of the grocery delivery company.

The company raised its IPO price to $30 a share on Monday, which valued the company at about US$10 billion.

This is a fraction of the $39 billion it was worth in 2021 as the pandemic spurred demand for online grocery deliveries.

Instacart (NASDAQ:CART)’s impressive market debut, which followed in the footsteps of ARM and RayzeBio last week, signals that the IPO market may finally be recovering after a downturn in activity for the last 18 months.
