BDF drilling establishes large high-grade nickel deposit
Murchison Minerals has published the final assay results from its Summer 2022 drill programme at the Barre de Fer (BDF) Zone at the HPM Nickel-Copper Project, located in Quebec, Canada.
During the Summer of last year, Murchison drilled a total of 13 holes (4,316 meters) at the HPM Project, ten of these holes (3,355 meters) were on the BDF Zone with three holes (961 meters) completed on the Sarah Target. Assay results for the drilling at Sarah are pending and expected in due course.
The drilling at the BDF Zone confirms the presence of an extensive zone containing high-grade nickel-copper mineralisation, which remains open both at depth and along strike (Figure 1).
The extent of nickel-copper mineralisation has now been expanded to 475 meters below the surface, from 295 meters previously. While the strike length has been increased to 370 meters from 315 meters, and the width increased to 200 meters from 150 meters (Figure 2).
Assay results from the drilling at the BDF Zone include:
- 121.1 metres at an average grade of 1.36% NiEq. or 4.07% CuEq. from a depth of 123.8 metres; including 21 metres at an average grade of 3.31% NiEq. or 9.59% CuEq., 10.1 metres at an average grade of 2.78% NiEq. or 8.31% CuEq., and 10.5 metres at an average grade of 1.76% NiEq. or 5.27% CuEq., (BDF22-002)
- 18.05 metres at an average grade of 1.86% NiEq. or 5.0% CuEq. from a depth of 89.95 metres; including 8.1 metres at an average grade of 3.41% NiEq. or 9.16% CuEq. (BDF22-001)
- 69.90 metres at an average grade of 0.68% NiEq. or 1.83% CuEq. from a depth of 267 metres; including 16.1 metres at an average grade of 1.26% NiEq. or 3.38% CuEq. (BDF22-001)
- 19.92 metres at an average grade of 1.17% NiEq. or 3.49% CuEq. from a depth of 29.71 metres; including 4.66 metres at an average grade of 2.55% NiEq. or 7.59% CuEq. (BDF22-010)
- 7.59 metres at an average grade of 1.78% NiEq. or 5.31% CuEq. from a depth of 56.41 metres; including 4.03 metres at an average grade of 3.15% NiEq. or 9.37% CuEq. (BDF22-010)
- 5.5 metres at an average grade of 0.77% NiEq. or 2.29% CuEq. from a depth of 8.5 metres (BDF22-003)
- 55.98 metres at an average grade of 0.44% NiEq. or 1.32% CuEq. from a depth of 256.5 metres (BDF22-007)
- 39.05 metres at an average grade of 0.41% NiEq. or 1.21% CuEq. from a depth of 366.5 metres (BDF22-007)
The BDF Zone is just one of 75 EM targets at the HPM Project (Figure 3) demonstrating its district scale potential. Murchison is in a unique position to have secured a dominant land position (576 km2) in a newly emerging nickel-copper district. The comprehensive ownership of ground in this newly emerging district, located in a safe and stable region with extensive existing infrastructure, makes this an asset of strategic importance.
Upcoming Milestones
The results of the three holes drilled at the Sarah Target remain pending and are expected to be announced when they become available. The Company is expected to release its plans for 2023, which are anticipated to focus on expansion and delineation at Barre de Fer, as well as further exploration along trend.
