Apollo Minerals Ltd - Apollo Minerals uncovers more base metal upside near Kroussou’s flagship prospects
Rock chip sample from the TP14 target.

Apollo Minerals Ltd (ASX:AON) has uncovered mineralised gossans within a new embayment at the province-scale Kroussou base metal system in Gabon.

The discovery occurs along trend just 1.7 kilometres from Kroussou’s TP13 target, home to a massive sulphide discovery grading 40% zinc and lead over 3.5 metres.

Apollo believes the new base metal gossans occur in a similar structural setting to the TP13 massive sulphides, but what’s even more exciting is that the 0.8% zinc and lead gossan grade is higher than the 0.4% recorded across the TP13 gossans.

The road ahead

All things considered, Apollo believes this discovery supports its regional exploration campaign, designed to build on an initial exploration target that demonstrates Kroussou’s "Super Giant" scale potential.

The explorer has also pinpointed a 600-metre gossan trend along a potential high-grade structure at TP10 and identified gold within the base metal system at TP14.

This news comes soon after Apollo kicked off its 2023 field season, crafted to expand its exploration footprint and test high-grade structural trends. Work will initially target the explorer’s newly acquired Keri permit.

“Highly encouraging”

Managing director Neil Inwood said: “Results from the recent regional reconnaissance programs have confirmed that the airborne electromagnetic survey is successfully identifying both new embayments and high-grade structural targets.

“The occurrences of mineralised, gossanous material along trend from the identified structures is highly encouraging and points to new high-grade structural targets.

“The identification of gold in gossanous material at TP14 adds further potential to the broader Kroussou system. This early-stage result will be followed up in 2023.

“Fieldwork has re-commenced with an initial focus on assessing the newly acquired Keri permit, which has a 50-kilometre trend of prospective contacts that has yet to be explored.”

Work program highlights

Future exploration at Kroussou will aim to expand the broader project footprint, while fieldwork programs will test and define the company’s recently announced initial exploration target.

There’s lots on the agenda, but some of the key activities include:

  • ongoing analysis and compilation of regional exploration data;
  • Interpreting a regional airborne electromagnetic survey to pinpoint additional embayment and structural targets;
  • surface exploration programs comprising soil sampling, geological mapping and rock chip sampling to generate new targets within the Keri permit and test high-grade structural trends at Kroussou;
  • followup regional mapping and review of gold occurrences within the Keri permit at Salane, including historical data review; and
  • ranking and prioritising drill targets across the broader Kroussou licence package, with an emphasis on delineating high-grade structural targets.
