King Charles III banknote design unveiled by Bank of England

The Bank of England has released designs for the new banknotes featuring King Charles III, Britain’s new monarch.

Notes featuring Charles will enter circulation in mid-2024 and be applied to all four of the polymer bank notes with the existing icons remaining on the back.

That means for £5 notes-Winston Churchill, £10 notes-Jane Austen, £20 notes-JMW Turner, £50 notes -Alan Turing.

“These notes can be checked using the same security features as existing HM Elizabeth II banknotes” said the Bank of England.

To avoid any negative financial or environmental impact the notes will only replace worn banknotes or to meet a growth in demand for currency, meaning the currency of both monarchs will co-circulate.

“I am very proud that the Bank is releasing the design of our new banknotes which will carry a portrait of King Charles III. This is a significant moment, as the King is only the second monarch to feature on our banknotes” said Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England.
