Small-Cap Snapshot: Cloud service provider Brightcove misses analyst estimates in its second quarter

Brightcove Inc (NASDAQ:BCOV) shares sank following its second-quarter results. The cloud-services provider reported a net loss of US$0.16, lower than analyst expectations of a loss of US$0.06 per share. The software company has developed an online video hosting platform. Customers include Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F), General Motors Company (NYSE:GM), Dunkin’ Brands Group Inc (NASDAQ:DNKN) and Oracle Corporation (NYSE:ORCL).  Shares of the Boston-based company fell nearly 9% to US$8.52.

Essendant Inc (NASDAQ:ESND) beat analyst estimates on earnings and revenue in its second-quarter results. The company provides business equipment, including janitorial supplies, breakroom items, computer accessories and packaging supplies. Its board of directors declared a US$0.14 per share dividend payable on October 15 to stockholders of record at the close of business on September 14. Shares of the industrials company jumped more than 15% to US$15.23.

Parker Drilling Company (NYSE:PKD) shares are down this morning. The oil and gas company implemented a 1-to-15 reverse stock split earlier this month, reducing its number of shares to 9.3 million from 140 million. Its second-quarter results will be announced next month. Shares of the Houston-based company sank more than 7% to US$5.23 in Friday morning trading.

Steakhouse chain Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group Inc (NASDAQ:DFRG) reported a loss in its second quarter but its shares are doing medium well. The Restaurant Group is synonymous with steak, operating Del Frisco’s Grill, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle and Sullivan’s Steak House. The company recently completed its acquisition of Barteca and its upscale casual brands Barcelona and Bartaco. Shares of the Texas-based company were up more than 2% to US$11.15.

The Russell 2000 small-cap index was down more than 1% in Friday morning trading.
