Red River Resources sets new quarterly copper production record

The company achieved record copper concentrate production of 2,697 tonnes during the June quarter.

Red River Resources Limited (ASX:RVR) has achieved record copper production at its Thalanga Operation in Northern Queensland for the quarter ending June 30, 2020.

An increase in copper grade of ore milled to 1.0% and a record copper recovery to copper concentrate of 84.7% resulted in quarterly production of 2,697 tonnes of high-quality copper concentrate, compared to 2,310 tonnes in the previous quarter.

During the quarter Thalanga continued its strong operational performance by also producing 4,310 tonnes of high-quality zinc concentrate and 1,133 tonnes of high-quality lead concentrate.

Shares higher

Shares in the company have been as much as 19% higher to 11 cents and are up from 4.2 cents at the close on March 23.

Red River also processed a parcel of historical gold-rich tailings from its nearby Liontown project during the quarter and produced about 600 tonnes of gold concentrate containing 1,300 ounces of gold on an unreconciled basis.

Tailings reclaimed

The Liontown Tailings were reclaimed and transported to Thalanga during April and May and campaign processed through Thalanga during June.

The company processed a total of 13,000 tonnes of historical tailings.

Production and throughput stable

Mine production and mill throughput at Thalanga were stable during the June quarter.

Thalanga Operations mine produced 83,000 tonnes at 9.6% zinc equivalent compared to 91,000 tonnes at 9.4% in the previous quarter and 90,000 tonnes at 9.8% in the corresponding quarter of 2019.

Red River processed 82,000 tonnes of ore at 9.2% zinc equivalent during the June quarter, compared to 84,000 tonnes at 8.5% in the previous quarter and 104,000 tonnes at 11.2% in the corresponding quarter.

Zinc equivalent values include zinc, copper, lead, gold and silver.

The record copper production of 2,697 tonnes, recovery of 84.7% and 1% grade of ore processed compared to 2,310 tonnes at recovery of 83.9% and grade of ore of 0.8% in the previous quarter and 1,806 tonnes at 71.1% recovery and 0.6% grade in the corresponding quarter.

For the 2020 financial year, Red River mined 334,000 tonnes at Thalanga at a zinc equivalent grade of 9% and processed 331,000 tonnes of ore at 8.5% zinc equivalent.

Annual production was 18,834 DMT of zinc concentrate with a grade of 53.4% and recovery of 87.3%, 5,142 DMT of lead concentrate and 7,939 DMT of copper concentrate with recovery of 79.4%.
