The video technology company uses video virtualisation technology to enable users to customise video streams with content that suits their personal tastes and preferences.
As one of the first players in the field, Linius CEO Chris Richardson said the company aimed to strike as quickly as possible in the market.
“Delivering personalised TV”
He said: “Millions of fans will have the ability to create, watch and share millions of personalised channels. Our unique data-driven video assembly is delivering personalised TV to the world.
“This truly is a world-first for soccer, or any sport for that matter – no one else can do this.”
MSA with SportsHero
SportsHero (ASX:SHO) has signed a Master Services Agreement (MSA) to use Linius’ technology in its sports prediction app and the platform’s Kita Garuda mobile application.
Kita Garuda was developed for one of the world’s largest sports federations, the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), to give fans the ability to create their own custom channels in what Linius considers as a “world-first”.
SportsHero CEO Tom Lapping said personalisation had become a significant trend for video content.
“The securing of the Linius Technologies is a significant development for SportsHero and has the potential to significantly boost engagement within the Kita Garuda mobile app,” Lapping said.
Fan base of 80 million
PSSI has a fan base of 80 million users, split across four leagues and 128 teams.
Fans will be able to completely customise content based on their viewing preferences while rights holders get paid for plays, giving better value for money on both sides of the screen.
Richardson said: "Our technology isn’t just scraping existing footage into a new platform, Linius is licensing footage from multiplier rights holders into one place. So a fan has access to more footage and rights holders are still getting paid for the footage they own.”
PSSI app users will be able to search and watch highlights of their favourite players, the best goals, saves, penalties and red cards – basically any content based on their own criteria.
"There are hundreds of thousands of soccer fans who would pay a monthly subscription to get their own personalised channel. Say I’m an Arsenal supporter, I would be able to personalise my channel to show specific match footage down to the microsecond," Richardson said.
Commercial score for Linius
PSSI is 100% owned and controlled by the Indonesian government and, under the MSA, SportsHero is the exclusive provider and partner to build PSSI’s first official platform, including social media, merchandise/e-commerce, game highlights and player access.
Following the successful launch of the Kita Garuda app, SportsHero intends to pursue further agreements with other leading football and sports leagues across Asia and globally.
The MSA provides for the deployment of the integrated Linius technology for future SportsHero clients.
The term of the MSA is two years with provisions for an extension. Pricing is at Linius’ standard pricing while revenue will be dependent on the take-up of the service.
News of the deal on July 1, 2019, spurred Linius’ share price up more than 11% to reach 4.8 cents mid-afternoon.
