Metminco MD confident on revitalised Los Calatos strategy

Metminco’s (LON:MNC) managing director, William Howe, explains a more focussed, smaller mining operation at Los Calatos in Peru will allow the firm to hit higher grades of copper.

A new 3-D model of the deposit has found “distinct and discreet” higher grades of the metal, and as result, Metminco’s now plans to mine and mill rate of six million tonnes per year with 50,000 tonnes of copper produced annually.

Speaking to Proactive, Howe says the scaled back operation will result in capital costs being halved and explains the new plan is already attracting some investment interest from potential partners.

He also provides an update on the company’s Mollacas Project in Chile, which is still being delayed due to legal issues.
