The stockpiling of concentrate represents the first utilisation of the Karumba Port Facility for zinc production since the Century Zinc Mine was put on care and maintenance in early 2016.
The successful dewatering, filtering and stockpiling of saleable concentrate at Karumba also allows the company to receive revenue from sales of concentrate in the September quarter of 2018.
The company recently restarted the Century Zinc Mine
New Century’s port manager Greg O’Shea said: “The successful refurbishment and restart of activities at New Century’s port facility is a great achievement for the company and an exciting development for the town of Karumba.
“The first stockpiling of concentrate is another important milestone for the company and the port operations team is excited to restart export shipments in the near future.”
Mine officially opened last week
The official reopening of the Century Mine occurred on Friday the 14th of September.
The opening was attended by guests from state and federal government, the investment community and the media.
