Provident Financial finance chief trousers £800k from share sale

It’s been a rough 12 months for Provident Financial

Shares in Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG) inched lower on Tuesday as the doorstep lender’s finance director sold a chunk of his shares, pocketing more than £800,000 in the process.

A stock exchange notification revealed Andrew Fisher, who has been on the firm’s board for over a decade, sold 123,000 shares at £6.635, netting him a total of £816,000.

Fisher’s shares would have been worth considerably more this time last year, before a string of profit warnings, investigations into some of its subsidiaries and a heavily discounted £300mln rights issue depressed the stock.

At the end of May, Barclays issued a bullish note, saying that things are “finally looking up” for the troubled group.

Provident shares were down 1.5% to 654.3p in mid-morning trading.
