Clever Buoy is a marine monitoring platform that autonomously distinguishes large sharks from other species and sends warning signals to the shore for human intervention response.
The Congressman and officials from Orange County have publicly declared their support for the Clever Buoy pilot installation at Corona Del Mar beach.
This will be the precursor to a US$10 million shark management proposal including the deployment of Clever Buoys at a further six Orange County beaches.
The initial deployment will be underpinned by a Federal, State and County funding collaboration.
Shark Mitigation Systems has developed and commercialised a suite of patented products to mitigate the risk of shark attacks.
The company recently launched a direct-to-market supply chain for its SAMS (Shark Attack Mitigation Systems) shark deterrent technology.
SAMS is a visual deterrent technology that is applied to wetsuits and watersport products to reduce the chance of shark attacks.
The SAMS visual technology is commercially available for application to new and used surf crafts for over 28 million surfers, bodyboarders and stand up paddle boarders worldwide.
Shark Mitigation Systems is currently fulfilling initial pre-sale orders and accelerating production to meet the expected demand for in-store products to over 200 retail surf stores in California.
With an estimated global market of circa 20 million surfers, 6 million body boarders and nearly 3 million stand up paddlers, the opportunity for a low-cost application is significant.
