Ram Resources trenching results point to higher rare earth mineralisation at Motzfeldt

Ram Resources (ASX: RMR) has received results from trenching in September at its Motzfeldt Project in Southern Greenland with mineralisation found at surface 270 metres from a western drill hole.

The purpose of the trenching was to obtain geochemical data to determine the extent of mineralisation, and gather surface data that could be correlated to mineralised drill hole intersections at depth.

Best result was 1.69% Total Rare Earth Oxide (“TREO”) +Y2O3, 5040 ppm Nb2O5, 1.23% Zr02 and 385 ppm Ta205 over 5 m in trench channel samples.

Trenching was carried out along the line of the drilled holes running east to west across the Aries target.

Progress of the trenching was hampered by the small excavator available, which had limited power and reach and ultimately by the impact of Hurricane Igor, which closed the program for the season.

Work commenced on SRK_TR1, the start of which is located on the line of drilling close to drill holes SRK_14 and SRK_14B.

Sampling was completed at 5 metre intervals along the line of the trench, with a total of 20 samples taken.

Ram said "the results of the trenching support the geological interpretation from the drilling that suggests a trend of higher TREO mineralisation and comparatively lower Ta-Nb grade on the western side of the Aries target, whilst to the east the grade of Ta-Nb is higher."

Trenching/surface sampling will be continued between trench SRK_TR1A and the boreholes to establish grade continuity.

The key outcome for the 2011 season, which commences in June, will be to gather sufficient data to estimate a JORC compliant Inferred Mineral Resource at Aries.

The 2011 exploration program is planning 4,000m of diamond drilling for about 16-18 holes which will mainly target the north south strike extensions of the main mineralised zone at Aries.

The program intends to extend the drilled strike length to 1,500m with possibly 2 holes drilled further to the west to test the concept a high grade REE zone that is distinct from the main Ta-Nb central zone.

It also plans to increase the coverage of ground geophysics and geological mapping before the drill programme commences which should provide additional data to assist in the targeting of drill holes.
