ABM Resources (ASX: ABU) and Independence Group (ASX:IGO) have assessed the first round of geochemical soil samples from their Lake Mackay project in Western Australia, identifying 65 new gold anomalies in the process.

Of particular significance is the Tekapo cluster, with 14 anomalies over a 15 by 20 kilometre area, and the Terry’s Pit cluster, with 4 anomalies over a 5 by 8 kilometre zone.

To date a total of 3592 soil geochemistry samples have been collected, assayed and compiled, covering over 2000 square kilometres.

Follow up and infill work is complete in some areas, and assays from the soil sampling are pending.

ABM has several gold irons in the fire, including its Old Pirate gold deposit in the Northern Territory, which hosts a total resource of 611,000 gold ounces at 10.1 grams per tonne gold.

And at the nearby Buccaneer deposit, ABM carries another 1,247,500 ounces at 2.54 grams per tonne gold.

The Lake Mackay project is non-core for ABM however, as a result of the alliance with Independence, whereby it is spending $1.6 million to earn the right to enter a joint-venture and the results to date, warrants interest.
