Dome Gold Mines (ASX:DME) has made a copper discovery in Fiji in outcropping at the Wainivau Prospect which is the first discovery of its type in the district at surface.

The porphyry-style copper mineralisation in outcrop was found during fieldwork at Nadrau Porphyry Copper-Gold Project, located within the wholly-owned SPL1452 on Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu.

Follow-up geological mapping, rock chip geochemical sampling is continuing and will be followed by a geophysical (IP survey).

There had been historic drilling in the vicinity of the new discovery which found some low-grade copper.  However, those holes appear to have missed the target.

Which sets up a future drill campaign with new targets.

Representing good prospects for the discovery of significant copper-gold mineralisation of Southwest Pacific Rim type. Dome is designing and estimating costs of an initial drilling program.
