The company owns 21 coal exploration permits (EPCs) and 12 EPC applications in the Bowen and Surat Basins of Queensland considered to be prospective for both metallurgical and thermal coal, and exploitable by both open cut and underground mining.

The combined area covered by the exploration permits and applications totals over 2,000 square kilometres and represents highly prospective coking, pulverised coal injection and thermal coal targets.

Australian Pacific Coal’s near term exploration focus is on its wholly owned Blackwater projects strategically located centrally among operating coal mines in close proximity to established infrastructure, and with realistic opportunities for rapid commercialisation.

The company completed the first stage of its drilling program at Churchyard Creek, part of Blackwater, during the June 2012 quarter with preliminary analysis showing that the targeted coals had been intersected.
